the importance of a routine

I like to have a routine. Actually I think I'd like to have one, but it's been so long since I had anything close to it...
In NYC I had weird ever changing working hours. In Chicago I didn't get into a routine and we were already moving again.
I need structure, and some sort of pattern to get some feeling of control over my life.
We have been in France very little time, but I think some benefits of settling down are already coming together.

Some habits I noticed are slowly sinking in and I like it:

-getting up early. Not super early yet, but earlier than a few weeks ago
-planing menus for the week. This has made tremendous changes in my eating habits. I still eat out of boredom, BUT I know what to cook for diner, and how to use what's in the fridge. I can do groceries in 10 min and have enough for the week with less than 40Euros.
-cleaning the kitchen at night
-preparing breakfast first thing in the morning. Gets both of us in a better mood.
-going for walks in the park next door :)
-market on wednesday mornings! I tend to spend an extra 10 euros though. But it's worth it. Mostly I love the fruit/veggies guy for variety and freshness. And the cheese guy. Really "cheese" what more to say about it?
-visiting my parents once a week :) I just take the train for a couple stops and my mom picks me up at the station. It's nice and sweet and I might as well enjoy it as long as I can. Soon enough I'll have a baby and maybe a job some time after...
-Lent resolutions, a work in progress. So far prayer is the one I stuck to the best and I'd love to keep it up! (My only resolution was to make an appointment every night for the following day. So far I missed a couple times, and rescheduled a lot, but it did really help me to not let a day go by without at LEAST getting 5 min for the readings)

More routine I'd like to get in:
-going to walk everyday
-going to Paris once a week/ having friends come to my home once a week :)
-having a special activity with Mr L once a week. A good old date night where we can plan something ahead, and not only decide last minute stuff... Which is nice too, but giving some thoughts to a date night is something I miss... I like enjoying the anticipation..
-getting some routine with the church too. I am looking forward to tomorrow night's mass, to get to know the other parishioners better. Also I must admit I am looking forward to getting into a protestant routine too. We listened to an online sermon once and it was really neat to share that with Mr L. :) I hope our kids get to know his point of view too.

So I may be an old boring lady, but I'm glad we get some structure back in our lives. I love family traditions!! Do you have any to share?

What are routines that really matters to you?

I LOVE routine....I am a routine gal...I find great comfort in my routines...just coffee and the paper in the morning for example.
The relaxing drive through DC on the way to church every Sunday is another routine that I love.
Great post idea.
