Brittany and road trip

So our trip...
We left early on Thrusday to go visit the North of Brittany, specifically the pink granite coast. Thanks to this stamp, that made Mr L. fancy a trip there.. :)
We arrived Thursday around lunch time in a local market where we had very local food: galette saucisse (which is country style saussage in buckwheat flat pancake, and oh so good!!). It was fun but it was a very touristy place. I bought some strawberries for dessert but I was so disappointed to see they were mostly bad ones.. the guy probably took advantage to sell me the older stuff as I was obviously a tourist.. :/ Not too happy about that..
But oh well, it's just some strawberries.

Then the wonderful man I married took me to a spa! :) I had a soon-to-be-mommy treatment, which is a bubble bath, a facial and a hand massage.
Honestly the bubble bath was scary and stressful. The lady told me it was set on "relaxing" so I got in expecting to just relax, but some program soon started and the bubbles were actually jets vigorously massaging the fat parts of my bottoms and I did not enjoy it too much. Every minute or so a loud bang would make me jump and a new set of jets would start. After two or three cycles of wondering if the thing would just come apart I realized it was probably normal and just started laughing hysterically.. It was really funny if you think of it...
About halfway through the lady came to check on me and I asked her to turn the bubbles down, but she said it was a set program and she couldn't change it..
oh well. It was quite funny after a while. Finally it stopped and I got to enjoy the warm water and relaxing atmosphere in the room..
Am I glad I didn' ask for the "energy" program!!

The facial was really awesome. For some reason I always thought facials in spa were a trick to sell you cream for an astonishing amount of money.. But it really was some enjoyable experience.
The lady gave me a face massage and shoulders and everything was SO relaxing. She lightly put some make up on me and I looked like a million bucks afterwards. It was great! :)

In the evening after the spa we went to our Bed and Breakfast (can you tell Mr L is awesome and prepared everything in details?) to check in before we went out for dinner.

this was our bedroom. The people who received us were an adorable couple of grand parents, with a very specific taste for room decoration ;) But they were so welcoming and helping, they lend us umbrellas and maps and gave many recommendations..

We went to a very nice restaurant and I enjoyed every minute of it. We spent about 3h there!! French food really is an institution.
That was my first time in a Michelin starred place, it was not even that expensive for the quality and service.

Friday we went for a long walk by the sea (all those pictures above). SO beautiful. Best part of the trip I think. :)
Then we went to have lunch (yummy fish soup on the port) and we went on to the next bed and breakfast to leave our stuff.
It was a huge house, a mannor, with very fancy names for the room. A teenager showed us the room as his mom was out. Our room was on the top floor... Not that easy at this point. I am getting really slow.
It was quite a weird feeling. Mr L was disappointed because he expected to be welcomed by the lady, and many things didn't feel right in the room: no soap, burnt bulbs, no towels etc.
Anyway when we left the owner arrived so we talked with her, but she was not nearly as welcoming as the previous couple. Not that she was mean or anything, just very professional, and if you want professional, you go in an hotel, not B&B..
anyway.
We decided to cancel the restaurant reservation of the night (because we had such a great time the night before nothing could beat it!!) and just hanged out in the big city nearby, trying to catch the soccer game and a seafood platter.

I had an horrible night because the bed was SO hard, like sleeping on the floor. We slept on the floor quite a bit when we moved in january and it was the same feeling. Turning every hour or so to relieve the hip pain..
By 7 am we decided to not spend the second night in that place.
We left before breakfast. The lady was not too happy, she almost had us pay a cancellation fee. Seriously? She started to say something about how normally she should charge.. but I didn't let her finish, I took my sad-sick face, looked down to my HUGE belly and said " I'm sorry but we'd better leave now and take it slow and the way home. It's a long road, we won't be able to spend one more night here"...

We were so happy to leave! ah!
We went to an other city, St Malo and tried to have breakfast there but it was so touristy again.. Beautiful, sad, empty shell. :/
Around 10 am Saturday we were done. A little sad and bitter.
But not so much. Because the purpose of our trip was to have time together, do what we really wanted to do and just enjoy little things. And I was so proud of us for leaving the bad B&B and realizing that we didn't have to be in a touristic place to have a vacation time.

So we went home.
Taking the small back roads, we ended up in wonderful cities I had never heard of, like Domfront, a dot on the map that turned out to be a medieval walled city!! We had crepes there for lunch.
Then we stopped in Alençon for coffee and ice cream :) We saw Chartres from a distance.
and we arrived in our little village in time for mass, but I was truly exhausted and I had to seat throught it all.
Afterwards we tried for the first time the restaurant in our village. It was funny to think we cancelled yet an other michelin starred restaurant to go for all you can eat french buffet.. lol but this is what made us really happy. To be home. To be together. To know that a relaxing vacation is not an over priced B&B but a walk by the sea. :)

We had a wonderful sunday in our garden. The deck is coming along really nicely.
Tonight we might pour the concrete to set the posts.. more on this later.

home sweet home :)

We are back from our trip in Brittany, we decided to come back Saturday instead of Sunday because we figured out that home is where we really wanted to be :)

Here is just one pic of the beauty:

I can't believe this was only a 4 days break. It felt like a full week or more, because we made memories for a lifetime :)

We are so happy in our little place here. It is truly a piece of paradise for us.
We came back to a beautiful garden ( 3 days of rain?) tomatoes in the veggie patch. We had to go get extra long steks for them to grow along..

here is Mr. L. working on the deck...

And this is a pic from breakfast today!!! A woodpecker!
(Can you spot him right in the middle?)

I won't post too much today because my sister comes for lunch. It was her birthday yesterday so I got her a little gift. Then in the evening I realized she also just got a new house, so I decided to make a little happy new home gift.
One more craft project, but I was decided to finish it that evening.
I finished it just now...
That's ok. I'll do tomato salad for lunch ;)

It's a seed jar for her garden. She has been in an appartment for the last 10+ years so I bet she'll enjoy having a garden. These are bulk seeds for biodiversity flowers. Flowers that bees really enjoy..
So I made a little cover with a bee hive.
The glue of the previous label would not come off despite my efforts, so I just made a new label for the seeds.
I'm glad I finished it this morning before she arrived! :)

Now off I go to mow the lawn and cook something before my guests arrive!

A hand made baby bed!!

Here is my mom's cousin. He is a retired wood worker.
He hand crafted a baby bed for us!!!
Now I really want to get a matrass and start on some bedding.. Maybe I'll try a patchwork :)
This is so beautiful. When I go in the baby's room now I feel like he is expected. :)

Friday's disappointment really took a toll on me (the paperwork AND midwife not working) I felt rejected from everywhere. So this present was very welcome.
Thanks uncle Jacques :)

what pride?

Not like I'm bragging or anything but this looks like one of my fastest projects ever!
hopefully this won't jinx it!

and a pic of my kitchen, because it looks so encouraging :) I love the spring feeling in here!
I made little cakes for my friends tomorrow. I have two friends stopping by!!! Because it's a vacation time in France, one is a teacher and the other is student.. how neat!

Everyone is getting a bit worried about economical situation in Europe. Greece is declaring banckrupcy, Portugal is crashing now.. who's next? Are we going to go back to local currency? All of that doesn't worry me as much as the mentalities, when there is economical problems in europe people get more nationalists, and they can vote for really stupid choices (I'm thinking fascism..)
:/
Hopefully it's just a lot of noise that will soon be behind...

seeking motivation...

Here is my work for the day.

It's 10:30 am.
The morning is halfway through and I haven't done much...
I took downstairs the folding garden chairs we had and some of the mess that was on the table, and I put away the clothes that mysteriously grow on the floor everyday.

This afternoon we receive a new table and chairs and I need to take care of the living room.. Can you tell my focus have been on the garden these past weeks?
Well if you saw the garden you wouldn't believe it, but it's true! ;)

I need motivation because I am so slow.
Agh I used to be really fast at cleaning up!
Yesterday night it took me over half an hour to clean the counter tops, sweep/mop the kitchen and put new linens in the bed..

So I'll make it a little game and take a pic every hour on the dot till I'm done..
If you don't think this game is very funny please remember I have very little social life and I am currently missing part of my brains due to growing a small human being..

11am

of course if I take 10 min breaks every time... ;)

11:30 am
it gets worst before it gets better:
Noon
5 boxes went in the attic, the few empt boxes went outside for recycling and I was left with plenty of books to sort...

From left to right we have 2 piles of religion, 1 pile of linguistics, 4 piles for classics (divided into those that stay in the living room and those that go up in the bedroom), a pile for comic books, a pile for cooking books and a pile for children books.. Pffff time for a lunch break!

1:00pm.. lunch break still going strong :)

a little pic of my cross stitch as an interlude..
1:30pm, back to work...

2:00pm
the religion piles went upstairs, this is what I still have to move up..
But I am done with the shelves!

the bottom one is temporary mess because we need to find an organization for the electronics...

on the other side of the fireplace..
I am happy we can have a Bible in the living room. I opened it on our wedding's gospel: John 17. Behind it is our unity candle.

2:30 pm
barely any time to bring up more books, the delivery guys were here!!!

messy is back...
3:00 pm
nothing has changed, I went online to send pics to Mr L and we chat a little ;)

3:40pm
I'll call that a day.
All the books belong somewhere, the recycling is out waiting to be picked up, I swept the floors and here is the final result ( with one little corner of mess left)

new cute desk "bonheur du jour"

new table and chairs!

last little messy corner.. I can hide it all in the closet ;)

hey looks like this motivation thing worked!
