garden update

Sad.. everything is slowly rotting in the garden :/ A high of 62 this week. We do have sunshine, for a cumulated 90 minutes a day. Then we have grey, and rain.
It's making me quite sad. Also the fact that it's getting really hard to go out.
My older child loves the outdoors. But he now whines "cold mama" when we get out :/

Let's be positive:
the mint is doing great :) I planted 3 kinds of mint last year. Two really came back, the marrocan mint and the chocolate mint, and now the third kind is back too!!! :) Milly Mint.

The tomatoes are probably not going to turn red this year :( But we can make fried green tomatoes and maybe salsa or chutney if they grow a bit more.
I had to remove the leaves that were covered in mildew.. Not much left after this.

 Beans

Peppers, barely flowering now so I don't expect much..

Pumpkin are growing nicely! Crossing fingers for those!

The hops are taking over the deck!

And the corn is now taller than us, but no flowers yet..

This season really taught me how important the weather is when you grow food. I am very thankful for grocery stores, that we don't rely on our own production only.

I am so sorry your garden didn't do well. Have you thought of building small hoop houses over your raised garden beds? They can be made using pvc pipe bent and covered with clear plastic. It will dramatically raise the temperature inside and help your warm loving plants like tomatos and peppers grow better. I know a lot of gardeners living in the colder regions of the US use these quite alot. Hopefully next year your garden will do better!

I have a pretty good garden this year in the Midwest...despite the heat and drought. But I still rely on the store way too much!

I'll share the sun and dry weather if you'll send some rain our way!

Found you on the Barn Hop!

Hi, we also have the same problem in German. As you said, luckily we dont have to rely on our garden. But the poor farmers do.
Greetings from Germany

Oregon (in the US) is having a similar summer. I think we've had maybe two weeks of nice summer weather this years. Today was overcast with a little rain and cool. Like yours, our garden looks terrible. The zucchini put on fruit, but they haven't gotten any larger in days. Good Luck
