Homemade America

We have been living in France for almost a year now.
I found myself missing lots of things about the USA. Mostly some feelings and atmospheres.
The decorations all year round, people taking care of their homes. The shops opening hours, employees that actually work to help you. BIG spaces. In everything. Especially wild open spaces.
The friendliness of people, you can have a friendly chat with a stranger just to say hi or comment on something, without being weird or defiant..
The COFFEE!!!! Coffee everywhere, easy access, to go cups, starbucks, dunkin donuts and coffee carts at everycorner (or is it only NYC? ) . BIG coffees with milk if you'd like. In europe with milk means "one spoon" or about that :/
everything on amazon... even food!

Anyway this is what I miss. Having lived in the us only 2,5 years.
My husband misses so much more..
Food is a big one for him..
There are exactly 2 american food shops that we know, and they are outrageously expensive.
Last time I went to the one in Paris they had peanut butter chips.. for only 7,50€!!! that is about 10$!!! For a cup!
So yeah I didn't buy it...
Instead I try to bake and we got lots of ways to make our own little piece of america.

The main one is homebrew. DH's favorite hobby. :)

So far he made pumkin ale, an IPA, the most delicious red celtic ale, a smooth brown and a triple belgian style for my mom.. All very good stuff!!!

We also got a meat grinder to make homemade burgers.
He bought a Turkey fryer!!! oh my!
I made apple butter but didn't get around to can any yet..
and cookies :)
lots and lots of cookies.
homemade oreos, halloween version :)

I'm getting good at those homemade oreos, but the simple chocolate chips I can't make just right so far, they end up flat, or too cooked :( any good recipe?

Your baby looks so much like your husband.

I lived in Europe (England, but traveled the continent in April) for one semester a long long time ago while I was in unversity. And I missed salted popcorn, real hamburgers, and real grocery stores. LOL

I have a no fail choclate chip cookie recipe on my blog somewhere.

And the Bells of St Marys wasn't the worst ever, the first graders Christmas story was the best part. But think of all the people who got TB from the nun who didn't know she had it!
