perfect presents :)

My birthday is tomorrow :) I will be 25. I know so young/ so old...
Anyway I usually could care less about birthdays.
Now that I'm married and thinking about my own family I wish I could send a birthday card to my mom! Some kind of "thank you for life" card :) that would be weird... The good thing is that my mom's birthday is the 16th, so I get to send her a birthday card anyway :) I'll find something less weird.

Anyway I've been showered with toughtful presents:
my cousin Irene sent a package full of french treats: almond paste, chocolates, more chocolate, nougat etc. Oh I wish I had the cable to connect the camera and post pictures... She included an old picture of her, as a 3 years old, eating some chicken. She is goofy and funny :) And her son looks exactly like this, too cute..
That was perfect present :)

Mr L. got 3 presents for me, I opened one yesterday: The world's major languages.
I've read only half the intro so far. It's excellent. I'm definitely going to post more about it. Just because there is so much more to "nerd" than just computers!!

Today I got 2 books of CS Lewis! :) Just on time for the collective reading on Kate's blog! :)

and tomorrow an other one (mystery mystery..)
This morning we had smoked salmon and cream for breakfast :)

And he's been singing with Luis Armstrong voice since yesterday.

I'm so in love...

Hi - You left a common on one of my blog posts and I wanted to reply to it. I have replied to it on my own blog underneath where you left the comment but I'm also leaving the reply as a comment on your blog, just in case you didn't come back to my blog and see what I wrote. If I knew how to "contact" people on here other than just leaving comments, I would do so, but I'm fairly new to blogging and if a way to contact others exists, I am not aware of it. Therefore, I apologize in advance for replying to your comment in the comments section of your blog page.

Anyway, you wrote: "there is a button for smiles and trials that makes me very uncomfortable, do you think the picture is really necessary? I sthere a way to read your posts without seeing it on the side?"

I'm not sure if you understood the purpose of the picture on the side of my blog page for Smiles & Trials. Smiles & Trials is the blog page of another mom - it is not my blog page, nor is the child in the picture my child. I cannot speak for the mother of this child but from reading her blog, I can only guess that the reason she offers others the chance to place the Smiles & Trials "button" on their own blog is for awareness and to keep her son in their thoughts and prayers. Her little boy, Dennis, in the picture was born with severe malformations on his face and has many surgeries in his future before his face will begin to look "normal" (I hate that word). His mother, the writer of "Smiles & Trials" is a fabulous mother from what I can tell from her blog. So, while I have taken your comment into consideration and I do apologize that the photo makes you uncomfortable, I am keeping it on my blog. It's important to me to educate others that there are many less fortunate children out there.

Your question:

is there a link between eating healthier and your son being autist? Does it make a difference for his developpement or are they two separate things that you want to blog about...?

There has been quite a lot of scientific proof to show that eating a gluten-free, casein free (GFCF) diet aids in healing autism. Many doctors who follow what is called a DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) protocol in treating children with autism advise patients to follow this diet, as it helps to cure what is called "leaky gut" syndrome - a contributor to many of the symptoms children with autism exhibit. The proof shows that once the gut begins to heal, many of the symptoms of autism begin to dissipate and/or disappear entirely. A GFCF diet is only one of many things Jenny McCarthy used in helping her own son recover from autism.

We have had our son on a GFCF diet as well as many supplements for going on three months. We have seen many improvements. For example, our son is going on four years old and had never slept through the night - EVER. He would wake up two, three, and sometimes four or more times every single night (very common in children with autism, by the way) - and would be up for the day quite often at 5 or 6 am. You can imagine how tired we were! When we started him on the GFCF diet, we saw immediate improvements. He stopped waking up at night and most recently, he has begun sleeping later in the morning - usually 'til around 8 or 9 on days when he does not go to preschool. Another major improvement we have noticed with the implementation of the GFCF diet and all our other restrictions is our son throwing considerably less tantrums. He is calmer and therefore, does not throw nearly as many tantrums. We went from at least twenty tantrums per day to around two or three per day, and on really good days, no tantrums.

The main reason I blog is to keep track of what is working for us and what's not. I also blog in hopes that others without children with autism will read it and see that having a child with autism is so incredibly challenging. I want to educate people that the next time they are out and see someone whose child is having a major meltdown, it's very possible that the child has autism and is simply having a hard time dealing with the world around him. So many times we will be out in public and my son may have a meltdown and I get the stares and I see the whispers - like they think I'm the worst parent ever and that my child is a spoiled brat. I just want to tell them like Jenny McCarthy told a man about her son one day, "He has austism, you @$$hole!" Only I would never be that harsh - and definitely not to a stranger.

Anyway, I hope that helps you. Please feel free to ask me anything about my blog or autism. I would rather people be educated about autism than think we are a bunch of nuts with freaks for children.
