France is on the bigger size of European countries, but still, for us if you have to drive more than 2-3h to get somewhere, it is FAR.
We have no concept of long drives, of what to do in a car, the ide
a of ENJOYING a car trip is simply from an other planet!
In the USA a 3h trip to go visit family is almost like being neighbors!!
This week end we went to a wedding. We left the Saturday morning and drove. We arrived just in time for the ceremony, and left shortly afterwards. About 10h of driving for under 2 hours of celebration.
My friend was SO touched that we took this oh-so-long trip just to be there for the wedding.
Truth is we had a great time in the car.
Of course it's a lot of driving and it's quite the adventure with our newest addition. I SO wish carseats were not a necessity so I could comfort the baby when he starts crying and not have to wait for the next stop along the highway..
Anyway.
Going to that wedding was nice. We had plenty of time to talk and listen to music/radio shows.
And there is something wonderful about witnessing other people getting married, it somehow renew the beauty and strength of our own marriage. :)
Here are a few pictures from Beaunes, where we stop both going and coming back. A city very famous for its medieval wine fairs, still a central place to buy wine.. we got only 8 bottles but 8 great ones!

We have friends who live in Winnipeg and drive 27 hours to be at church conferences a few times a year. Also friends from Ottowa, Connecticut, and Michigan travel several times a yearto central New York state. It is part of life in the U.S., to take Road Trips. My girls have been known to drive 7 hours one way just to go to the ocean for the weekend. When my oldest daughter spent a year in Norway, she traveled around Europe a bit and couldn't believe how compact it is over there, how much one can fit in to a road trip. In Norway, it takes the same amount of time to go across the entire country as it takes to get across our state! It is nice you enjoyed your road trip, despite having baby cry. I used to be able to nurse the baby while Paul drove,by leaning over the car seat....oh, the good old days...
