Taize

Taize is a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, France. Millions of people know about this village. And they know what's going on there. It's repeated all over the world just about the same way it is done in Taize.

Ecumenical prayer.

Christians, and especially youth, of all confessions gather for a week, all year round, simply to pray together.
This is the (famous) cross of Taize, reproduced all over the place, almost each Taize prayer group has its own.

What is so extraordinary is that Taize is not a place for professionels, it's a school of prayer.
And the most important thing you learn there is silence.

You'll say: " What? are you crazy? You mean teens are meeting everywhere, or even travelling down muddy path to be in SILENCE???"
Well yes I will answer, this is what they do, this is what happens...
And this is how: songs.

You'll say again:" Oh ok, now I see you call it silence but they listen to christian rock songs, nothing new under the sun.."

Well, will I answer again, no. I mean silence as in quiet, no sound. But it all starts with songs. Meditative songs. Like this one, or this one.
In taize prayer (the video linked there shows the scheme of a prayer, multilingual as usual in taize prayers) we repeat those short songs over and over again, for about 3 to 5 min. Then there is a reading form the Bible, Followed by an other short song, then intercessions, song again, and then in the middle of the prayer time: silence. For about 10 min, or more. And the teens enjoy it. The silence isn't awkawrd or heavy. It's prayerful.
Through the songs we learn to communicate with God.
No need for long speeches, sometimes the same sentence, verse, is the whole conversation. And silence is the logical continuation of the prayer.

I would recommand anyone who is christian to try out once. It's a beautiful prayer for peace and unity.
